The Class of 64 reunion
This past week there was a class reunion for the Ripon high school class of 1964 to which
my grandfather, Joe Machado had attended. Although he was the class of 63, his class
had decided not to meat back together. Nevertheless my grandfather was invited to this
get together to talk about the beloved past.
There, he spoke to many old friends whom he has not been in touch with for many years.
“He was surprised to see that many people there” he said to me during our conversation
about the event. “But, then again the class behind me was almost twice as large as mine.”
My grandfather’s class was approximately 60 people but that was surpassed with the next
class being nearly 90 people.
As he mingled with all of his old friends, he noticed that most of his assonates went to
the same grammar school as him, Atlanta grammar school. Speaking to these old former
classmates and friends, he rekindled some old friendships and memories.
“I remember one day when we where paling baseball with my old cronies, I accidentally
did him over. He pitched the ball to me, underhand and then I hit it, but what I didn’t
mean to do was beam him right in the forehead with the ball.
There where many of these small parables but, he left me with only a few. However even
though these stories are few, it is uplifting to know that there are still people who
can remember a simpler time and be able to hold onto the past.
