Boys’ Waterpolo Wins Despite Adversity

The Ripon High School boys Water Polo team was recently faced with a terrible and shocking situation: their star goalie could no longer play for the team.

This was a serious problem, due to their small team size; they had only one back-up player, Carson Morrow; so far the team had the least amount of goals scored on them in the entire TVL League. Going into sections last Thursday, November 1st, they were wary of their unfortunate situation, not knowing how their team would do and their new goalie Cole Gonzales would perform. Well, there was no need for that.

The team exploded into action, defeated Pacheco, a high school in the town of Los Banos, 17-2. Nathaniel Gagnon was responsible for almost half of these goals, scoring 8, followed closely by Zach Schudder, who leads the TVL League in steals so far and is a likely candidate for the Team MVP award.

The team plays The Christian Brothers next on Tuesday, November 6, who they have placed higher than in previous tournaments, and will make the tournament semifinals if they win. I, along with the rest of the school, wish them luck.
