Easter

As kids when we hear the word Easter we think about the Easter bunny bringing us baskets full of fun toys and candy, coloring eggs, having egg hunts and eating lots of food with our family.

What people don’t always know is that Easter is one of the most attended Sunday services of the year at churches. This being because on Easter Sunday it celebrates Jesus Christ rising from the dead. Eggs are used to celebrate Easter representing ‘new life’ because new life hatches from the egg, and Jesus rose on the third day – giving us new life in him.

Easter is known as a moveable feast because it doesn’t fall on the same date every year, as most holidays do. Easter season begins with Ash Wednesday and marks the start of lent and the Easter season. Lent is a 40-day period of fasting, remorse, self-control and spiritual discipline. Good Friday is a holiday remembering the punishment of Jesus Christ and his death, followed by Easter Sunday.
