After a lonely, solo race for ASB President, Kayla Jacklich got the news that she was reelected President of the Ripon High School student body. There is no doubt that this news came happily to her, yet it meant that she had to step back for a moment and reflect on the past year.

“I’ve realized how much work it takes to put on events,” said Jacklich regarding her experience from the past year of being the ASB President. “All the little things matter, if the little things don’t get done you can’t create something big.”

Being in any sort of leadership role takes a huge amount of time and effort. However, Jacklich has had a whole year to hone her abilities.

“This position has taught me a lot about time management skills,” said Jacklich. “I’ve learned to work with my teachers and plan out my day so I have time to complete everything.”

In order to plan engaging events that get the student body excited and involved, Jacklich explained that you must be efficient in your planning methods.

“I know now not to lag behind and to start planning events months ahead because you are always going to have different things that pop up that you have to take care of immediately.”

Jacklich is genuinely interested in this position because of her love of people and passion to make her fellow students’ high school careers all the more enjoyable.

“I love this role because I love the responsibility,” said Jacklich. “I love creating events that make other people happy.”

Another year as the ASB President gives her a plethora of opportunities to complete the tasks that she might not have been able to accomplish this past school year as a result of timing or other reasons.

“We have new methods for next year to get more people involved that we weren’t able to do this year because it was too late to start,” said Jacklich.

The main goal for the leadership team next year is to increase student involvement.

“I definitely want more school involvement,” said Jacklich. “We are trying to get a lot more activities that are different because we usually have the same type of dances and everything.”

Jacklich also hopes to drastically lessen the burden for the upcoming freshmen. Coming into high school as a freshmen is not an easy task. When you see the freshmen around campus Jacklich advises students to be friendly, smile as they pass by, and give them advice.

“Be warm and welcoming and try not to be one of the big scary seniors.”

Jacklich recently spoke in front of all the current eighth grade classes regarding high school and addressing any questions they might have.

“I gave my number out and I got so many text messages about high school,” said Jacklich. “I’m pretty free about giving my number out to students at Ripon High School,” said Jacklich. This allows her many opportunities to connect with students on a personal level, especially the new students who might be unsure about the high school.

Jacklich is a pleasure to have around campus because of her outgoing personality and her openness to make new relationships with anyone. She is excited for what the future holds for Ripon High and for how she can influence the student body.
