On Wednesday, December 6, the Ripon Indians (3-0) girls basketball team defeated Johansen High School (1-4), 44-27 at home.

Things were looking a bit rough for the Indians prior to the game, with the flu hitting a lot of their players, and some of them not practicing or being out. Despite the illnesses, coach Rick Inderbitzen said, “We also had two players missing so it was interesting on how we responded.”

Johansen’s weak spot was the turnovers. The Vikings had 27 turnovers, which led to the Indians making baskets to increase their lead to 17.

“I think during the second half we came out stronger and played together more” said post Janessa Inderbitzen.

Post Mia Van Lewen had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds to add to the Indians victory over the Vikings.

“I felt that my confidence level helped how I played as well as the team having confidence in getting passed and talking” junior, Mia Van Lewen, said.

The lady Indians held the Vikings to only four points in the third quarter of the game, giving them a boost.

“We did a good job in the third quarter of holding them to only 4 points. We have a long ways to go if we want to compete with some of the better teams in our area and our league,” said coach Inderbitzen.

The Indians next game is Monday, December 11, against the Oakdale Mustangs.
