The Lady Indians Take on Their Rival

Varsity Soccer Faces Escalon

Ashley Pugh, Aubree Pelon, Deanna Sandoval, and Kierra Chavez celebrate their win with a picture after beating their rival.

The Ripon High School varsity girls’ soccer team stole a win against their rival, the Escalon cougars, at home on January 10.   They defeated the Cougars with a final score of 4-0.  During this match, the lady Indians scored two goals during the first half and ended with a strong win after they were able to score two more points in the second half.

A sophomore with three goals against the Cougars, Aubree Pelon, stated, “The game against Escalon was better than expected.  We performed really well with sharp, neat passes, assists, and goals.  We have a very strong attacking offense this year, which is super exciting to be a part of.  Our defense is also full with wonderful skills, which really help bring the team together.”

The girls’ varsity soccer team had an easy victory against their rival school, which was able to boost their confidence towards the remainder of the season.  The girls are improving their skills quickly despite them being a young team.

Senior, Megan Johnson stated, ¨Although our strong suits are our speed and tenacity on the ball, our team can improve on finishing.  My expectations for the rest of the season include finishing strong in league and trying our best at playoffs.¨

The lady indians currently have five wins and one loss with four games remaining in the season.  The varsity girls are looking forward to finishing off the season strong and making the most of the time they have left with their team.   As the season is quickly coming to an end, the girls are focused on winning TVL and preparing for the first round of play offs.

Pelon said, ¨My expectations for the rest of the season is to win sections hands down.  If we keep our strong game going, I am sure you will see us winning TVL at least!¨

Come support the lady indians as they take on their next opponent, Hilmar, on Monday, February 5.

Pelon stated, “We have all the right pieces to the puzzle, now we just really have to focus on putting them in the right places.”
