A’s Take 3 Walk Off Wins In a Row

On May 8, 2017, the Oakland Athletics (20-20) found some magic in the 11th inning against the Los Angeles Angels (21-21). Shortstop, Jed Lowrie launched a solo homer to lead the Athletics 3-2 and to their third walk off win in a row. “Minus some big postseason games,” said Lowrie, “this is about as exciting of a stretch of baseball as I’ve been a part of.”

The day before, the Athletics and Detroit Tigers (18-19) battled it out against the Tigers closing pitcher, Francisco Rodriguez for their second walk off win from third baseman, Ryon Healy, who shot a two run homer to lift the Athletics to an 8-6 victory. “You can’t really mimic that feeling. It’s really special,” said Healy.

On Saturday, May 6, the Athletics rallied for their very first walk off win of the season, getting a two-run single from second baseman, Adam Rosales to lead the Athletics to a 6-5 victory against the Tigers. “I was actually watching Joyce’s at bat and I saw him swing through an offspeed pitch, and I’m like, if I swing through an offspeed so what?” said Rosales. “So I kept that approach. I know he’s going to give me a fastball, but I didn’t know it was going to be the first pitch and a pitch that I could handle.”

The last time the Athletics had three straight walk off wins was June 1-3, 2004. General manager, Bob Melvin said “It certainly never gets old. We’ve had a number of them over the years here. Once you get one and you come out the next day and you get in that same position, there’s still that carry-over feeling.”

The Angels and Athletics will continue their 3 game series until Wednesday, May 10th in Oakland Athletics.
