Whether it is driving with your friends or driving by yourself, being in control of the wheel is always something teens are always looking forward to. Students at RHS are beginning to reach the age to legally apply for their driver’s license. The law of California states students aged 17 ½ and younger must take a Driver’s Education course before getting their permit. Taking Driver’s Ed can help you become a safer and more responsible driver. California also requires a six-hour, behind-the-wheel training program before you can hit the road on your own without an adult with you.

Many students procrastinate on their driver’s education since they are either busy, have a job, or are simply annoyed on how long this course is taking them. 

“It took me an unreasonable amount of time to finish my driver’s ed. I bought the course around September of 2020 and completed it in 4 months. There’s way too much procrastination on my part.” said Alex Santos, junior. 

While other people didn’t take as long, “It didn’t take me that long, It was really easy for me.” said Jocelyn Gonzales, junior.

On other hand, many students were anxious for their parents or a friend to teach them how to drive since many can’t find a ride back home. Some students take their time to learn how to drive while others learn fast.

 “I was anxious to get my driver’s permit because I wanted to finally start driving around town. I also wanted to be a little more Independent!” said Maria Barajas, junior.

Although, a lot of students mentioned how you must drive responsibly. This isn’t a game that gets their license first. It’s a process that takes time to learn. Every move you make behind the wheel has a positive or negative impact. 

“Always be aware of your surroundings when driving behind the wheel so that you can safely get to your destination,” said Yissel Soto, junior.
