Seniors and their Siblings

This is the first and last year the freshman and senior siblings can go to RHS together. This single year they go to high school together is really important because it can do a lot for their relationship and bring them closer together. This is also usually the last year the younger sibling gets to bond with the older sibling before they head off to college if they go.

Many of the seniors said that it is a little different with their younger siblings going to high school with them now and many of the freshmen said they like having their older siblings being there with them for their first year of high school.

“Having her at school makes my freshman year a lot less stressful, like if I don’t have lunch plans or anyone to go to I know she is always willing to let me eat with her in her car or go talk to her”, says Keneddy Winter, freshman, when talking about her older sister Maddy Winter.

Both seniors and freshmen would agree with the fact that being together at the same school this year has brought them closer together. They have gotten to know more about each other and gotten way more involved in each other’s lives.

“I learned a lot more about my sister by going to the same school this year and I love it. It made us a lot closer, and we know what is going on in each other’s lives so we can be there for each other,” said Maddie Winter, senior.

Many sibling relationships have also grown closer because of the younger siblings maturing. They are starting to understand their older siblings more, now that they are in the same environment and are going through similar things as them.

“I feel like school has definitely made us closer. She has a lot more responsibility now and that also comes with maturity. Her maturing has definitely made our relationship grow closer,” said Korbin Hodgson, senior.

Although, having your sibling be there might seem great and all, it also comes with its downfalls. Whether it is their sibling annoying them, getting too involved in their business, or being too overprotective, it can get irritating. The freshman siblings are trying to figure out and get used to high school, but with their siblings watching their every move it can get a little stressful.

“Being a freshman with Korbin being a senior gives me a lot more freedom but he is a lot more overprotective on his part, considering the fact that he’s already had many high school experiences and I am just starting to experience mine,” said Mckenna Hodgson, freshman.

These senior and freshman siblings showed the realistic ups and downs of how attending high school with your sibling for the first time can affect your relationship.
