Movie Review; Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The newest addition to the Sony-Marvel universe, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, has become a massive hit after releasing on October 1, 2021. A sequel to the original 2018 movie Venom, VLTBC has surprisingly great ratings and far surpasses its predecessor with a 30% increase in ratings compared to the original movie. Reviewers rave about how the movie maintains the characters we loved from the first movie and incorporates them into a new, fresh story perfectly fitting for the October/ Halloween season.

Tom Hardy reprises his role as Eddie Brock, the journalist turned anti-hero after inheriting an alien symbiote named Venom. In this new adventure, the two characters have to come to terms with each other and set aside their differences in order to stop a new villain, Cletus Cassidy. After biting Brock, he too gained powers from another symbiote, Carnage. Venom and Brock have to stop these new villains from spreading their reign of terror over more innocent people.

“Because we were already used to these characters, seeing how they would incorporate a new story meeting new characters was, and I really enjoyed watching it,” said Jose Gudino, Senior.

Although mostly a comedic rollercoaster, this new movie brings a stronger plot and better action compared to the first. The overall feel of the movie felt more natural and not too fast on its pacing, making it more enjoyable and easier to watch. There was definitely some kind of theme of love and loss in the movie if you look past the comedy, and the way the plot maintains that dynamic throughout the movie even in the very end is pretty remarkable. Another huge thing to come out of this movie was a scene given to us through the post-credits, but if you want to know that you should watch the movie yourself. In a nutshell, the Venom series is about to change quite drastically.
