With Riverbank always having a team of the top runner in the valley, they have always been the biggest competition for Ripon. Girls did an astounding job winning 75-61, an accomplishment thought impossible. Guys on the otherhand, fell just short, losing by a mere four points, 66-70.
While Riverbank, excelled at distance (as always), Ripon managed to win nearly every sprint and mid distance event, as well as some placings in distance. While the Ripon girls were seen as the underdogs, they pulled through, with the guys losing by nearly one placing in a race or field event. “The feeling of winning makes you forget about the pain you endure, and all you feel is pride,” said Cynthia Castillo, a senior distance runner.
This years track team, much larger than usual, is a great advantage which helps to fill almost every event, making the odds of gaining points in each event much better. With an all around team, Ripon has hope of having a larger group advancement to masters later this year, and looks to take all league, taking down Riverbank and Hughson at TVL Finals.
