On the 7th and 8th of September, Military recruiters SSG Jacob Moseley and SSG Jovan Coleman came to Ripon High School to meet the students of our very own JROTC program in order to give some information about the military as well as lead Friday’s physical training. Every year, military recruiters visit Ripon High School’s JROTC program in order to pique interest in the military for those who are either already interested, or have just begun to spark an interest in joining any branch of the military. This simple yearly visit can be detrimental to students who are thinking about joining the military, however have not yet fully decided. Brandon Kerlin, a junior who has a leadership role in the JROTC program, states, “I personally know tons of people who have no clue what they’re doing after high school and would benefit immensely from looking into what the Army has to offer.”
During their visit, SSG Jacob Moseley and SSG Jovan Coleman also explained the different military career options, healthcare benefits, as well as personal benefits from joining the military. Many first year JROTC cadets learned things that they had not known before about the military. Kerlin, who took notice of this, says “The army can provide some seriously helpful incentives to the cadets.”
All in all, this year’s visit has shown overall success in interesting members of our schools JROTC program in a career in the military, and will hopefully continue to do so the following years.
