Freshman, Lucas Rietkerk, plays undefeated in league, Ripon High School Varsity Water Polo Team. On Oct. 25, the boys played Oakdale winning 13-4 clinching the League title that they have shared with Oakdale the last two years. Rietkerk had one assist and cheered on his team for their victory. Rietkerk has been playing water polo for 4 years. He also plays outside of school for Big Valley Water Polo Academy in Stockton.
Rietkerk said, “It feels good playing for an undefeated team. I enjoy playing on a team with older boys because it makes me feel like I am able to learn more and get better.”
Although Rietkerk did not get as much playing time as the upperclassmen did, he enjoyed being able to be at the games to support his teammates and friends.
Rietkerk expressed, “I want to become better at the position of center because it’s my favorite position to play in the game.”
What he is especially excited for are the upcoming playoff games that the boys have qualified for. You can catch them in action during the first round of playoffs on Nov. 1, quarter finals on Nov. 3, and semi finals on Nov. 8. With the RHS boys only losing to Division 1 teams this season they will have a strong chance of making it to sections on Nov. 11.
