Ripon High Girls Basketball First Home Game Ends with Win

Ripon+High+Girls+Basketball+First+Home+Game+Ends+with+Win

Girls basketball has returned to RHS after a whole year, and they returned in amazing style. Downey High had just suffered a humiliating defeat against Central Catholic on 11-21-2023, and were ready to get back on track with a win against RHS. However, the RHS girls had different plans, as they won with a score of 38-22 on 11-28-2023.

The game had started off with RHS having a strong defense, forcing several steals and keeping Downey on a low score of only four points in the first quarter. However, the offense’s inability to get the basketball in the net held them with only four points in the first quarter. However as the game progressed, the offense started to score more points and the defense continued to force steals. Senior Kailee Interbitzen stated when talking about the offenses slow start, “We just started to ‘click’ as the quarters kept going. We started making more shots and we got our energy back so we had more of a flow.”

Junior forward, Shayla Mckeon, was the leader in takeaways for the team vs downey. Mckeon explained, “At practice we ran a lot of press breaks to prepare ourselves for their strong offense. We were able to shut down the ball pretty quickly because we knew what they were going to do.”

The offense had started off to a slow start, but the team was able to rebound and take the win. If the team can get their offense going early, and their defense doesn’t regress, the RHS girls have all the potential in the world.
