Ripon’s varsity girls soccer team connected every pass so well on Jan. 16, leading to a dominating win against our rivals, Escalon. Ripon won the game 5-0. This game took place on Escalon’s home field.

In the first half, junior Olivia Maragos and senior Katie Martin scored for RHS, making the game 2-0. Ripon took control of the field and had the game all to themselves.

“We changed to a new formation,

4-4-2,” senior Kaya Whittaker states. “I think we utilized it really well with our positioning, and we were able to overwhelm their defense with our midfield.”

formation was new to the girls taking into account they generally run a 4-3-3, which has one more forward and one fewer midfielder.

The second half was where our

Lady Indians dominated the Cougars, scoring three more goals on them. These three goals were made by juniors Rylee Agbayani-Duenas and Olivia Maragos, and freshman Danielle Rey.

Rey states, “It felt good to beat Escalon considering they’re our rivals.”

Head coach Bryce Perkins and

assistant coach Devon Denhart were extremely proud of these girls.

Denhart states, “They were going for every ball and trying to make connecting passes. You could tell they were determined to beat Escalon. When the girls are having fun and working as a team is when they are playing their best, and this game showed that.”

JV also had an outstanding game and defeated Escalon 3-0. They had the ball all to themselves the majority of the time. The girls played as a team and had lots of fun running through the muddy puddles; they stepped onto the field with white jerseys and came off the field wearing brown.

Good job Lady Indians on securing the wins against our rivals!
