Shooting threes with a shiny ball, freshman Ava Hernandez was crowned Winterfest Queen at her game on Jan. 25. She spent all week showing off her spirit and proving she deserved the award. Though it was her first year being on Winterfest court and her first year at Ripon High, Hernandez loved getting involved and participating in the spirit week. Her consistent effort and organized dress ups led her to winning the bejeweled basketball.
The tension was high, but all three levels of girls basketball worked hard and won against Hilmar. Even though the crowd was small, their cheers were loud, filling the gym with excitement. With motivation from the enthusiastic band and their chants, the varsity girls’ teamwork came together. The girls played well and celebrated their much needed win.
Junior Isaiah Green was honored to become this year’s Winterfest King. Filled with shock, Green accepted the bedazzled basketball. After a week of anticipation, he was grateful to everyone who voted for him. “I was pretty excited, for the event and the whole entire spirit week itself. Now being a Winterfest champion, it’s really cool and I really like the basketball.”
Showing off their spirit and shooting hoops, the girls basketball team proved their teamwork makes them stronger and that RHS has a lot of spirit!
