Baseball started off fresh with a new mindset towards the following season. Besides the weather conditions such as fog, rain, and smog, this hasn’t slowed them down. Ripon High’s baseball team has been putting in the effort to knock the competition out of the park. The team has handled difficulty throughout past games, but nothing stops them now.
Varsity has begun with their first game of the season against Central Valley 6-1, Sophomore Josh Husband states, “We beat them six to one, it was a good game, but we did have a couple of errors that we could have improved on.” The game went well aside from different areas of the game. Husband continues, “Right now we’re doing a lot of infield work and outfield work. We definitely need to get our bats hot.”
The team is preparing for the rest of the season by communicating more clearly. After their first game, they played against Oakdale at Mistlin, and had an unfortunate loss with a final score of 2-9. Varsity continues to build together more as a team Senior Renzo Garcia says “This year our team is preparing by working extremely hard on perfecting our defense while also trying to be better in the batter’s box”As the season progresses, Varsity takes each chance they get to better themselves in the long run of the season.
Jv started off rough against Central Valley with a loss 0-1 and sadly lost to Oakdale 5-12. There were some aspects of the game that didn’t work out for Ripon’s Jv Baseball’s team. The team has grown closer together understanding how the team processes. Sophomore JJ Brawley says, “Well we’ve been putting in a lot of practice when we can as long as the weather permits, but we’ve been working on our fundamentals and tuning up things that were rusty from just getting back to the swing of things.” Although things look bad as of right now Jv can always bounce back.
