Senior, Sahaj Gill and junior, Rylee Agbayani-Duenas had to honor to be awarded athlete of the month for March. The pair were presented this award for their diligence in their sport, they’re student-athletes being able to persevere through school and sports.
Gill is playing Tennis for the last time, he has been playing for five years. He enjoys tennis because it is an individual sport. Gill says, “It’s fun because you rely on yourself when you’re playing alone, I guess it’s more fun that way.”
His teammates also make him enjoy his time during tennis. “I get to play with the best people and it’s just a great time. It’s just really fun,” Gill stated.
Not only does he excel in his sport but academically as well. He is tied for valedictorian for the class of 2024. In his free time some hobbies he enjoys are, taking showers, eating honey mustard pretzels and reading about World War II. As he is graduating this year, Gill hopes to attend a university in California.
Agbayani is involved in two sports: soccer and track and field. This year is going to be her third year in track , she’s participated since her freshman year. Once she started she fell in love with the sport of track and field.
“I absolutely love doing it and I’ve created so many memories over these past three years,” Agbayani stated. “Some of these would be making new friends, and also running the 4 by 100 relay alongside my teammates.”
When she isn’t playing sports she enjoys being with her friends and family. Agbayani hopes that after high school she can attend college somewhere in Southern California.
“I also hope to play either soccer or track at a collegiate level,” Agbayani-Duenas says.
Congratulations are in order to both of these outstanding student-athletes!
