Congratulations to junior Alana Hernandez for earning the well deserved title of The Stockton Record’s Athlete of the week! This title is given to a student athlete that has caught the attention of many due to his or her distinguishing talents. There was an online poll at RecordNet.com that was publicized with amazing high school athletes on the list. The community got the option to vote on which player would be honored to get this wonderful opportunity. Hernandez was chosen with a streak of 437 votes.
Hernandez has been on the Ripon High varsity softball team since her freshman year. She has experience playing catcher, first base, and is third to hit in the line up. She also plays travel softball on the Batbusters Ching 18u team. Overall, Hernandez has been playing this sport for nine years.
Hernandez states, “I lift my team up by reminding them failure is proof you’re trying and that you will get the next one.”
She has performed very well in every game, but during a preseason game against Linden on March 15, she proved her strength to the crowd. The entirety of the game both teams kept consecutively going back and forth until Hernandez stepped up to the plate to bat and ended with her team’s home run to bring in two RBI’s. Due to
this play Ripon took home the victory, 2-1.
In her freetime Hernandez likes to hang out with her friends and family. Some of her hobbies are to workout or get some batting practice in. Her dream is to get a scholarship to a college that fits her needs, so when she graduates college she is capable of living life freely to travel the world and eventually start a family.
“[She’s] my little rockstar and my little angel,” states her father, Jesse Hernandez. “I’m so proud that [she’s] being recognized for all that hard work!”
Alana Hernandez has a huge crowd supporting her.
“I just want to say the journey has not been an easy one and there have been a lot of times where I could have given up, ” she states. “If it weren’t for my family and God, I would not be where I am today, and for that I am forever grateful.”
Congratulations Alana Hernandez! This is one of very many successful titles you will be known for in life.
