Track Triumphs!

Track+Triumphs%21

Ripon High School’s track team is back at it again! On Wed., April 10, RHS track had a meet at home.

Initially, many players were nervous about the game because Hilmar High School, the opposing team, was rumored to have a very skilled track team.  “We knew Hilmar was going to be good,” Clara Schoolland, a sophomore at Ripon High says. “Although, in the end we ended up beating them by a lot more than we thought we would.”

Starla Skiles, a junior who achieved first place in 100 meter hurdles, adds, “They were a hard team to beat, so I was just kind of thrown in places.”

Regardless of Hilmar being a tough match, both Women’s and Men’s Varsity overtook the scoreboard, with Ripon’s Women’s Varsity winning 80 to Hilmar’s score of 56, and Ripon’s Men’s Varsity triumphing 95 to Hilmar’s score of 41.

Even though the RHS track team was victorious in their TVL Dual against Hilmar, the team still has room for improvement. Skiles says, “ I think [we can improve on] running events we don’t like or doing things we don’t want to. Because they were a hard time, everyone got put anywhere they didn’t want to run. But I think everyone did really good and did things that they didn’t want to do.”

Hopes remain high as the RHS track team goes on to continue their season. Schoolland shares, “I’m hoping for a PR in the 400.” And Skiles adds that she’s looking forward to her, “next meet on April 20th or Masters coming up, hopefully state.”

To conclude, the RHS track team is on an undefeated streak and, hopefully, remains strong. They will continue to grow and learn from their previous meets as the season continues.
