Spotlight: Mr. Bowers

Spotlight%3A+Mr.+Bowers

Art is a profound area where people get to express themselves with two things, a blank canvas and their own imagination, students might get it on the first try while others might not. This is where Mr. Bowers comes into the scene to help students paint it up.

This is Bowers sixth year teaching here at Ripon High and has helped students left and right. Bowers laughed when his mom told him to become a teacher thinking he wouldn’t become a teacher and explained, “What persuaded me was I wanted to do something in art but I also wanted to make sure that like it was sustainable and survivable so I wanted to do something to where I could teach art and my mom always wanted me to teacher and I always laughed saying I would never be a teacher and here I am.”

Bowers is going on leave next year due to his wife, so he won’t be here some parts of the year. Even though he’s going to try and be here, he’s a bit worried about students slacking off in his classes. “When [the students] help each other, a lot of times I’ll teach you guys, but the best part is when I can be walking around and hear you guys helping each other correcting each other and not necessarily me having to do it all the time.”

But besides this, Bowers knows that students will try and help others that might be struggling in some areas in art.
“[I’m] nervous, mainly because I’m afraid that if I’m not here all the time some of my kids might slack a little bit but I think that they’ll be in the right area to where I’ll be coming in once a week and final week to help them out.”

Good luck to Bowers and best of luck to him in the following years to come!
