The RHS track season had a great start, with an undefeated record of 4-0. On April 17, the seniors had their final meet at RHS, putting in all their effort to help lead RHS to victory against both Livingston and Modesto Christian.
The meet began with field events taking place, with 11 RHS field runners achieving first place and several other runners achieving P.R’s(Personal Record). Field events would be led by Senior Madison Lopez, who achieved both first place and a P.R of a 34 ‘0 jump in triple jump. Meanwhile during running events, short distance runners would take over the night, steam rolling both Modesto Christian and Livingston allowing only one event to be won by Modesto Christian.
Junior Starla Skiles, who achieved a P.R of 25.71 seconds in the 200 meter run, stated, “I think this team can go really far, we’ve gone far in the past and we have amazing athletes this year. So I’m really excited, everyone’s excited, everyone’s been working really hard and when it comes down to it we come together.”
After short distance events and prior to long distance events, the seniors walked out with family members on the football field. The seniors were called out by track coach Kinsey Taa, and stopped in the middle of the field to find their friends holding gift baskets with items the seniors are fond of.
By the time all of the seniors were announced and got their gifts, RHS had a stable lead over Modesto Christian and Livingston. This lead would increase even more with the distance runners closing out the night. The RHS distance runners had won each and every race they competed in.
Despite this being many RHS runners last time running a meet on the RHS track, they showed everyone that they put an identity on the RHS track team. An identity of winning.
