Senior Anthony Gomez has always fulfilled his spot on the Ripon High varsity boys volleyball team but on April 9 he really proved his ability. The Indians destroyed the Escalon Cougars in 3 sets with the final score of 24-9, 25-16, and 25-14. Gomez plays setter and outside hitter. He has been playing for 3 years.
Ripon played well all together gaining
each point with a bump, set, hit. Whenever his teammates would call for a set Anthony would execute all his passes perfectly causing them to get a kill.
There were some times throughout
the game where Escalon would be catching up but that’s when Indians would step up their game and talk it off as a team.
Sophomore Alex Alvarellos states, “Our setter Tony ( Anthony Gomez ) is really good at putting the ball where the hitter wants it. ”
Anthony Gomez played a huge part in that night’s victory against the rivals.
“I usually tell them to take a deep
breathe and reassure them that it’s not as serious as they are making their mistakes seem,” states Gomez. “I tell
them to remember who they are, regarding how much value they add to the team.”
It is always good to have some patience with your teammates.
Coach Bryan is someone who inspires Anthony.
He states, “ He taught me a lot over the years and I look to him for advice almost every game.”
Outside of volleyball
and school Anthony loves to hang
out with Johnny(a teammate on his team). One of his favorite memories on the team was when they played against Ripon Cristian. The c
rowd was cheering and motivated the team to keep fighting to get to the grand victory.
This was Anthony Gomez’s last year on the boys volleyball team. All in all he played very well and has made a great impact on the team. Good Luck and keep moving forward!
