During Club Rush week, Ripon High has held many events and colorful spirit days for the students. On Aug. 21 at Ripon High, Multicultural club passed out aguas frescas drinks to the students. The two drinks featured were pineapple and horchata. This event was part of the spirit day of the week: “Culture You” day. Many students lined up excitedly to try the two drinks provided by the club. The two individuals handing out the drinks were seniors Isaiah Green and Gia Grewal.
When asked about the purpose of the event, Green stated, “Well the spirit day for today was ‘Culture You’ day, and we wanted to find a way to show culture and put eyes on the club. It’s been something we have done every year in order to hype up the students for the club rush week.”
Evidently, the most important part of this event was not only to hype the students for club rush, but to also demonstrate Hispanic culture. Aguas frescas is a drink very common in Latin American countries. By bringing these treats to RHS, the club was able to share parts of culture from these countries.
“I think it’s important to share your culture because Ripon High is so diverse. It’s very cool to display everything we have to offer,” says Green.
The goal of the Multicultural club is to not only spread culture, but to create an outlet for different cultures to feel accepted at school.
“Our club is a place where people can be accepted and be able to show their culture. It feels really cool to be able to do that for students,” Green explains.
The club wants everyone to feel that they have a place to commemorate and be themselves regardless of their origin or heritage.
Thank you to the Multicultural club for allowing us to experience these amazing aspects of different cultures!
