Here at Ripon High School, many teachers instruct many different classes throughout the year, all with contrasting personalities. Each student is separate from the rest. When it comes to being a teacher, each individual has their own way of bonding with the class and ultimately getting a chance to steal the hearts of many people. As for Robert Mayfield, getting to connect with his students and running so many activities around school truly makes his job magical.
Mayfield’s main job at Ripon High is teaching Advanced Placement Human Geography and World Geography. His favorite part of class is getting to form relationships with his students through playful sarcasm and jokes.
Mayfield states, “I like joking with students. It’s fun to have a serious learning environment with healthy sarcasm. It’s good to have a sense of humor while still communicating that learning is important.”
Along with teaching geography, Mayfield also coaches the high school’s cross country team. He states, “I love getting to coach cross country. We stretch, we run, and we have fun.”
Mayfield gets to enjoy connecting with students through the joy of running and relaxing. He helps his class become better athletes while still giving them the chance to enjoy themselves with friends.
Through all of his duties at school, Mayfield shows his witty personality and makes the burden of class just a bit more bearable. Every amazing teacher at RHS has their own way of running a classroom and Mayfield’s is most memorable for every student and staff member. Without him, sports and class would be dull and uninteresting. Mayfield truly makes a difference in the lives of those at Ripon High.
