All through the school year, students are recognized for their work around the school campus whether it be good grades or just picking up trash. However, the biggest role to take on is the role of Student of the Month. Students nominated for this position not only get to show their outstanding character traits, but also gain the recognition they deserve.
Not only sophomore Ajit Johal, but also junior Yasmine Darby, both dedicated and hardworking students at Ripon High School, have been honored as the Students of the Month. This recognition celebrates not only their academic achievements, but also their commitment to leadership, responsibility, and positive contributions to the school community. Being Students of the Month means Johal and Darby exemplify the values of perseverance, respect, and excellence.
Johal, to begin with, has a variety of favorite hobbies such as playing video games, reading books, writing, and traveling. He is currently doing cross country and plans on doing track and field in the spring.
Johal was asked about how his sophomore year has been going. He said, “It’s been very overwhelming but I like most of my classes and my friends are very helpful.”
Johal was also asked who the person he looks up to the most is, “Probably my father because he’s a really funny, caring guy that I really look up to and he’s just really wise.”
Along with Johal, Darby is a student at Ripon High School who embodies the many traits of Student of the Month. She shows the school what it is to exemplify school spirit and exceptional character.
“I was really surprised when I got student of the month.” Darby says. “I still don’t even know who nominated me.”
Darby is currently doing gymnastics in her free time and, at school, her favorite part of the day is getting to do English with Mrs. Burton.
Darby states, “My favorite class right now is English with Mrs. Burton. She’s funny and she doesn’t take it super seriously but serious enough to still get the work done.”
Student of the month has been a valued position around campus for many years and no one deserves it more than last month’s nominees. Both the students are, and continue to be, perfect examples of what it is to be an honorable student. They are truly people to look up to now and in the future.
