Touchdown!
On Sep 13. Our RHS girls pulled off an entertaining Powderpuff game of flag football. On the home team it was the freshman and seniors and on the opposing team it was the juniors and sophomores. The girls were instructed by volunteer coaches from the RHS student body. The spirit was high, the beachers were filled with so many faces, smiles going from ear to ear, and proud parents cheering loudly. We also cannot forget our biggest support on the sidelines, the boys in tutus getting instructed by former cheerleaders. They added lots of character to this memorable night.
The game started off slow but quickly progressed to getting the attention from every individual. The girls showed a fierce attitude ready to put in their all. The ball was going up and down the field, flags were getting pulled from every direction. Seniors, Starla Stiles and Olivia Maragos had very impressive plays leading their team to the first touchdown.
Starla states, “I think the game went well as we had time to prepare for it. With the majority of the players starting to learn the game really quick I think we did very well.”
Olivia Maragos ended up scoring the first touchdown.
She states, “I scored the first touchdown and then my little freshman, Mia, scored the second one and I was so proud of her!”
Mia Hendryx and Maragos formed an amazing connection throughout this whole experience.
The sophomore and juniors did not give up on the ball and continued to fight throughout the game.
Sophomore Ava Hernandez states, “I think I did pretty good along with my team, I did turn over the ball a couple times but overall we did pretty good.”
The ending score had the seniors and freshman with 12 points and the juniors and sophomores with 0. All in all, both teams persevered, showed great sportsmanship and played to have fun.
Junior student, Julia Herrick states, “I was only nervous before the game but I knew it was all for fun and I was excited for half time.”
During half time the boys cheer gave an awesome performance. They practiced for several weeks with the cheer coaches to have the best performance they could give.
Senior Isaiah Hernandez states, “I was a little nervous for the halftime show because I wasn’t sure if I was going to remember the dance, but I made sure I practiced the dance to not mess up.” Hernandez was so dedicated that he broke his nose while practicing throughout the week. Good job boys cheer and flag football girls! Everyone’s participation and energy made a huge impact on the night.
