On Oct. 10th RHS volleyball had their home pink out game against Orestimba, and came out with a great win!
The game started out with varsity volleyball coming out on the court and warming up wearing their pink jerseys supporting breast cancer. Following warm-ups Mr Wright, RHS Athletic Director, recognized the volleyball officials for fall officials appreciation week. Without the referees, officials, and umpires there would be no sports games. Captains of varsity volleyball Katelyn Bogetti & Shayla Mckeon showed their appreciation to officials and took photos with them as well.
The students section showed out in the stands, as they were decked out in pink also supporting breast cancer for the month of October. Throughout the whole game they were loudly yelling for the lady Indians and exhilarated to see if we would take the win.
Starting off the game in the first set the teams scores were slightly close but Ripon persevered and kept racking up points fast. With their perfect sets and amazing hits the final score for the first set was 25-13. Junior Adrianna Dorn was a star player of the game who continues to work hard throughout the whole season.
“Mentally before the games I try to have really positive thoughts and stay really tough in my head. Physically before the games my main thing is getting a good warmup. I felt like I was steady throughout this whole game, I tried to stay confident in my performance throughout the sets.”
In the second set Orestimba started to step it up a bit. With scores close, Ripon began to fight back and kept their endurance. Their overall score for the second set was 25-17. Sophomore Kennedy Everhart gained many points throughout this set. This is Everhart’s first year on varsity!
“Staying positive when things get hard is challenging, especially when trying to read the hitter. I think I played well, I was a little quiet and slow in the middle of the game, but ended up playing pretty good after,” Everhart says.
In the third and final set Ripon was ready to take it all home. At this point, the lady Indians were ready to take the win. As the ball is set, Shayla Mckeon is ready to hit the ball into a win. The lady’s dedication throughout the whole game led them to a very solid win, 25-12 for the last set.
“My pre-game ritual is going to Dutch Bros. before every game with Millie, Kate, and Callie [teammates]. I always try to clear my mind before stepping on the court. I play better when I have no thoughts and a mentality that my team and I will succeed.”
The varsity volleyball team has done an amazing job throughout the whole season. The ladies did a great job playing the mental and physical game against Orestimba. Our team stayed very positive if a mistake was made and recovered quickly.
“I think all three levels did a good job at coming prepared to the game and working hard and through the struggles. I think varsity will go really far [this season]. Our goal is to make it to sections again and get that blue banner. For sections, our main thing we are working on is consistency,” Devon Denhart says, who is the head coach of JV and helps varsity during games.
The lady Indians have a few more games for their season and have hopes that they will continue their winning streak!
