At Ripon High there is an abundance of dress up weeks for many different reasons and some students enjoy showing their spirit. A student who does dress up and has spirit is junior Lilian Peterson. She shows up bright, matching or in red and white to show school spirit.
Peterson is November’s Spirit of the Month, she has dressed up most spirit days and will continue to do so. She has attended RHS for three years and is involved on campus. She is in two clubs and in both she has a position. She is the president and founder of The Faithful Ones. It is a religious club and she founded it in hopes of creating an environment where students can talk about their connection or relationship with God. She is also an officer for Girls League, a club where girls can connect and create friendships and the importance of sisterhood.
Not only is she a part of clubs, but she is also in Yearbook. This is where Peterson’s spirit of dressing up started. In the class, they are required to dress up for a grade, but it isn’t the only reason why she does it. Peterson stated, “That’s [Yearbook] the main reason why I’m spirited but I also want to encourage others to do the same.”
Someone who inspires Peterson is Mrs. Laura Ochoa, who she has made a connection with through yearbook and in Girls League. “She embodies positivity and being kind,” Peterson said. “She shows us the unification at this school and to get involved to help others who normally wouldn’t.”
After high school she hopes to go to The Joshua Institute for nine months, where she would go on missions. When she completes the nine months, Peterson would like to move to Tennessee. Outside of school, Peterson is also fond of playing instruments and cooking. She plays two instruments, the guitar and ukulele. Peterson is full spirit and has many other activities. She has many hopes and plans, like continuing her spirit. She hopes she will encourage others and says, “Don’t be afraid to dress up, yes you stand out but sometimes it’s good to stand out.”
