The Ripon High competitive cheer team has made two great wins at their first competition of the year at the Roebbelen center in Sacramento on Saturday, November 9. The Junior varsity non-tumbling team, embodying the theme of Royalty, proudly embraced Ripons red, white, and black by stepping off the mat with the ranking of second place, leaving them only one point behind the first place team. The crowd was left in awe, captivated by their stunning performance as they truly embraced the poise and elegance of royalty.
Layah Chhy, a freshman, on the non-tumbling JV team states this was a great start to the competitive season and, “We had a great placing and we definitely learned from our mistakes. I’m excited for the rest of this season.”
On the other hand, the Varsity tumbling team, followed by the theme “Generals”, won first place and additionally as grand champion, with zero deductions. With new eye-catching uniforms inspired by military generals, still embodying Ripons red, brought a new kind of energy to our first competition. Following their routine just as hard as they’ve practiced, the JAMZ judges watched in shock, watching them hit every stunt and move as intended.
One of the sophomore captains on both the JV and Varsity teams, Haiden Husman, states the girls could work more on, “Facials and having more excitement for the judges to judge on.”
Both levels returned home with their heads held high, proud of their achievements and ready to continue learning from their mistakes throughout their journey for the rest of the 2024 competitive cheer season.
