2024 is a year for change for the Ripon High Indians. One of these changes includes having a girls flag football team. Many students of RHS were wondering how the team would do and who would be on the team. All of these questions were answered, but some not for the better. The RHS flag football team would have a combined record of 3-15 on the season. Despite the struggles the team had in their first year in the sport, there are still many positives to look at including the two star players at Ripon High. These players are Seniors Starla Skiles and Emily Paxton.
Both of them were able to qualify for the first team all league section finals game. The First team all league section finals game is one game every year where the best players across the league compete against one another. Skiles and Paxton were able to qualify for this game after an impressive season. Both Paxton and Skiles played running back and inside DB for the Indians.
Paxton stated when asked about her performance, “I feel that my overall performance this season was pretty well for starting a new sport. I worked really hard and I thinked it showed all on the field the whole time.”
Both players gave it their all during the season, and every team had to watch out for them. This sport being such a new game for the students of RHS there will be ups and downs as seen by the record, however the players still had an amazing time.
Skiles stated, “[playing flag football]It meant a lot to me, because I got to meet a lot of people I don’t usually do sports with. It was a very different group, and a really cool opportunity to be one of the first girls flag football teams at our school.
Skiles and Paxton were one of the best players not just in Ripon, but across the entire league. This honor of qualifying for the all league game was well deserved and is an amazing accomplishment. Congratulations Paxton and Skiles.
