Cross country has finally reached its finish line! The season for most fall sports has ended with cross country now being the last. At Ripon high we have an amazing group of driven and aspiring runners. This team has pursued through the hot weather, hours of practice, conditioning, traveling, and overall a very time consuming sport.
It has been a very long season, however it has also gone very well. The team recently traveled to Frogtown to compete in the race that would dictate whether they went to sections or not. Our Varsity girls and Varsity boys, including some sophomore and freshman boys were able to move on to sections after this race.
Sections took place at Folsom and this ended up being the team’s last race, as no one qualified for state.
Everyone who participated however, ran their hardest and their effort to get as far as they got is not overlooked. It is still an accomplishment in its own that most of the team finished as a whole, and got to see all their hard work pay off.
Senior Malia Locarnini says, “I was excited that it was potentially going to be my last race…I had fun going out there and running one last race with my team.”
Although no one from the team qualified for state, it was still an important race for the team and especially for the seniors that have been in the program since their freshmen year, including Locarnini.
“I think we did very well this season. I wanna highlight the boys varsity, because I have seen a lot of hard work from them. The improvement from them this year, and qualifying for sections…there’s a lot of potential for their future”, says varsity boy’s runner Isiah Green.
It has been a very fun and high endurance season, and we can’t wait to see what more seasons have in store!
