Miss Ripon is a title that every Ripon girl dreams to have. Young women get to participate in a competition that is heavily integrated into the history and traditions of Ripon. Whoever wins this important title gets to embrace it throughout their senior year until the next girl is crowned. For the 2024-2025 school year, senior Kamalpreet Kaur has been reigning this title mighty and proud.
She’s responsible for many duties, such as being a public figure and volunteer at the Chamber of Commerce events. To list a few, Kaur has participated in the Town Awards Ceremony, which is when the Chamber of Commerce hands out several awards to businesses within Ripon, and any ribbon cutting event, such as the recent opening of Ripon High’s CTE Building.
“My favorite part about being Miss Ripon is going to community events and meeting different people from the community,” Kaur briefly mentioned.
Kaur has learned huge, significant lessons that will carry on to the rest of her life. She stated that her skills of public speaking have strengthened by taking on this role. Additionally, she’s learned how to communicate with others in a professional manner.
Aside from her Miss Ripon duties, she is on Ripon High’s Varsity wrestling team and co-president of the Punjabi Club. After high school, Kaur plans to attend a four year college to get a degree in Public Health to eventually become a cardiologist. A few of her hobbies include cooking, drawing, and hanging out with her brother. Her favorite hobby is going on walks with her mother at night to conversate about their day.
Last but not least, Kaur would like to leave a couple words of advice for the next set of girls that are competing for the crown. “Have a lot of fun with the court because that’s the part I enjoyed the most was having fun with the other girls and getting to know each other, and just try your best!”
