Ripon High School sports has been around for decades, however a newer sport has been on the rise. E-Sports has been around since 2019 and is known as a team building sport where players work together and find solutions to take the win.
Between Nov. 16th and 17th, the Ripon High E-Sports team faced off in a gaming tournament at the California State Fairgrounds in Sacramento. A few of the games they played throughout the two-day tournament were Rocket League, Smash Bros, Valorant and Overwatch , which also started up in the spring as soon as E-Sports began. However, that’s not all E-Sports has to offer. Other options are, as stated by senior Ryder Downey, “We also offer Mario Kart, Splatoon, Madden, 2K, Hearthstone and League of Legends.”
E-Sports isn’t just all for games. “As a more competitive person I think it makes it more fun cause it’s always more fun to win than lose and so having a competitive outlook on it makes it more fun,” says Downey.
If interested in joining E-Sports, be sure to email Mr. Yonan at [email protected], good luck to the E-Sports team this spring and best of wishes!
