As the new year arrives, the Indians boys soccer team is kicking off the new season with a new head coach, Jose Montes. He joined Ripon High with a wealth of experience, a passion for the sport, and the want to lead these boys in a successful direction in the sport of soccer.
Coach Montes comes to the program with 20+ years of coaching experience, starting his highschool coaching at Sierra High for 14 years, then went to Manteca High for 6 years and back to Sierra for a year as an assistant coach.
Even though Coach Montes has been a new face at Ripon High, he is familiar with the small town.
Montes said “ I have always had the dream of coaching here at Ripon. Driving past the schools on 99 saying one day it will happen. Then the opportunity to coach the team arrived.”
“I’ve worked around this area for the last 14 years. I’ve done training at the river, the sand courts, and the catwalk. He said, “This area has everything to develop a player to the next level if they are willing to put in that hard work.”
The way that Coach Montes looks at coaching his players is by asking questions such as, “How can you spark interest in the game for new players, or how can you develop players on the practice field?”
Coach Montes has not only focused on the present on how he can develop players or bring new players in but he also has goals for the team such as winning the league and a long term goal of winning sections.
Coach Montes has shown great leadership skills that have reflected on the team. Ripon High welcomes you with great respect and counts on you to take the soccer program of the school to the next level. Welcome to RHS, Coach Montes!
