The Ripon High Boys Varsity Basketball team took an unfortunate loss to Sonora on Jan.21 after an amazing victory against Ripon Christian the Friday before.
This year’s team has become much more acclimated to Dean Balcao’s new style of coaching and have been able to enter the league with a red hot 3-1 start!
The boys played Sonora at home on Jan. 21; and for the vast majority of the game, the scores were close and energy was high. This is the first time the boys have played Sonora in league, so it was a new experience for both teams; neither knew what to expect. Unfortunately after their first outing, Ripon fell one point short with a final score of 42-41..
Senior Marcus Madoski has been leading the charge for the boys and had this to say about their performance against Sonora.
“We just need to organize ourselves better as a team to put these players in a position to score, finding gaps, making the extra pass, utilizing our mid range jump shot, as well as communicating better.”
The team has already established a firm position in their league, and with their hard work and dedication to the game, there is no doubt that these boys will have a great season!
