This year, Ripon high school has introduced several exciting new additions, including clubs, sports, and more! One big addition is the dance team. Co-captains Camden Downs and Emme Wilbur have dedicated a significant amount of hard work, effort, and time to guarantee its success.
Downs states, “The practice season is hard due to finding facilities for practices but thanks to our coaches we always end up having space. We usually practice 2-3 times a week and the time varies.” Downs shared that it shows how their practice can be hard and takes effort to plan just shows the dedication.
The captains both have amazing goals for the team. Wilbur states “Some goals for the team this year is to see growth within their dancing abilities. I feel like coming into the season there was a lot of potential with the team, and our biggest goal was to grow as individuals but also as a team.” This shows that they don’t just want to see their improvement but the entire team, which also proves that they care.
The dance captains prove just how much effort is put into their team, along with many challenges that happen, including “Some of the biggest challenges as a captain are probably trying to choreograph, give corrections, and learn the routines all at once.” Wilbur states how there are challenges along with being a captain. Downs also added “it is hard knowing the abilities or levels that the dancers are at. So when choreographing it’s almost like a guess and check.”
Although there are always hardships at times the captains work hard together to guarantee the growth of the team.
