After much blood, sweat, and tears from the Ripon varsity basketball team, their season comes to an end. However they made sure to go out with an incredible performance before they head to the playoffs. In the season finale, they beat Hilmar with an impressive score of 58-50, and the community of ripon could not be prouder.
On Feb 14 2025, many were spending their valentines day with their loved ones, but for the community of ripon they spent their night watching the ripon high basketball team. Prior to the game, the team congratulated several seniors who would have their final home game. After much emotion and celebration for these players the game was underway. However RHS was very slow as they had several missed shots in the first quarter, while the defense let up 15 points. With the score being 15-9, fans began to worry about if the team could pull off the win.
However in the second quarter, RHS put together an amazing performance as they scored 16 points, and only allowed five points scored on them. This put the game at 20-25. Despite gaining the lead though, they needed to maintain this lead if they were to get out of the game with the win.
With the third quarter underway the RHS defense struggled with takeaways, giving Hilmar several chances to score. Hilmar scored 15 points in the quarter, although the RHS offense was able to keep up with Hilmar, scoring 17 points in the third quarter. This put the game at 35-42.
With the balance of the game heading into the fourth quarter, the fans in the RHS stands grew loud. With that energy from the crowd the RHS offense became electric in the final quarter. Scoring 16 points, and several of those points came from dunks by senior Marcus Madoski. The game would end with a RHS win with a score of 50-58.
Madoski states, “I hope that going into playoffs we are at least in the top half of the bracket. I’m really confident in our team, but I don’t think our record shows how good of a basketball team we are. When we come together, I don’t really see many teams beating us. Hopefully we make a good run and end the season with a bang.”
After an amazing season the RHS varsity basketball team is heading towards the playoffs. They will need to fix up their defense if they are to make an impact, however their offense will be feared among all other teams.
