Vendors, fun thrills and community members all gather at the same place during the same weekend every year at Mistlin Sports Park, and this spectacular event is known as the Almond Blossom Festival. Vendors line up and down near the carnival, and there is so much to offer, from sweet treats to savory food.
This year, while people enjoyed their food, they got to enjoy live music as well. Different local bands performed throughout the weekend, one of them being Green-182, which the Smoke Signal’s own advisor, Scott Sikma, is a part of.
“We were a little concerned because we weren’t able to get together since January due to scheduling conflicts with work,” explains Sikma. “But this experience was the most fun we’ve had yet! We all agreed the atmosphere was amazing.”
They’re a band in tribute to the famous rock bands Green Day and Blink-182. This band is made up of dedicated guys who love to jam out to music, and of course, play the instruments that come along with it. They have a few events lined up, one of which is in Ceres on St. Patrick’s Day. If you want to check out more from “green182modesto” or book them for an event, follow their Instagram page!
Not too far off from this concert was the carnival filled with fun rides, such as the Zipper, which has been gone for quite some time. Community members and visitors alike were thrilled to see it make a comeback. Of course, there were other favorites, too, like Zero Gravity and the Ferris wheel.
“My favorite ride this year is the Hammer Head because of how much fun it is!” exclaims community member Maryah Lupian. “There’s a lot of adrenaline going on!”
Visitors might not realize that Ripon Police Explorers patrol the area to ensure everyone’s safety so that everyone can have fun without worry. While they do this, there are always stickers on hand.
“I enjoy getting to see everyone be happy, and handing out stickers to kids that come up and ask,” states freshman Explorer Joliana Hanna.
Like every year, the Almond Blossom Festival’s carnival and vendors went off without a hitch. Ripon would love to see everyone again for next year’s festival!
