On Feb. 12, Ripon High’s Varsity baseball team faced off against Mariposa. Ripon kicked off the season with a blowout victory of 8-0. A sure fire glimpse at what is to come for the rest of the season! Hopefully they can ride the wave to a winning record.
The player of the game was senior Logan Spear. Making his way through the game with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Other notable performances were from senior Landon Kackley with a hit and an RBI. Chase Swafford also performed well with a hit and an RBI.
Senior Joseph Molthen pitched the majority of the day, with a pitching win in the game. He threw heat at Mariposa with them only being able to get 4 hits! The defense also locked down Mariposa, not letting them score a single run the whole day.
They consistently scored the whole day, with the Indians driving points on the board through 8 different innings. The Indians hope to have more shutouts going forward this season.
When asked about how it feels to kick off the season with a win, junior Josh Husband stated, “It’s good to start the season with a win, but we still have a lot to work on.” Husband believes there’s a great season in store. “Once we fix things up, we are in store for a great season.”
With a great win to begin the season, the Indians are in store for some good baseball. Go Indians!
