For this spring season, one of the main women’s sports is softball. This year, there is a talented group of girls on the varsity squad including six seniors: Chloe Lautenslauger, Alana Hernandez, Abby Stewart, Alexandra Dubbs, Emelie Benavidez, and Madilynn Fouts. While they are still in pre-season, they are treating these games as opportunities to learn and improve before league begins.
The varsity team has played two games so far, and while both games were close, they are fixing some details that are crucial to being a competitive and winning team. Currently, a handful of their varsity players are absent due to overlapping sports. While the team continues to cheer their fellow athletes on, they hope they will return soon. On February 11, they faced Manteca and the final score was 1-9. These girls are close to filling the gap necessary to win. On February 18, they participated in their second preseason game against Linden. This game was much closer with a final score of 6-8.
Angelina Martinez, a junior and starting pitcher for the softball team states, “ I think our team could work on talking and better communication. Something we do well is picking each other up when it’s needed and being supportive of one another.” The girls are beginning to make the connections and surely at their next games they will succeed. Our Lady Indians are close to success and hopefully, it will show at their next game. They have a long season ahead and there are better things to come. For their next games, they play on Feb. 24 against Kimball, Feb. 27 against Big Valley Christian, and Feb. 28 against Gregori. Come out and support our Lady Indians in their season!
