With the 2024-2025 school year soon ending many of the sports seasons have ended. This includes basketball, football, wrestling, and many other sports. However with this comes the beginning of some of the most exciting sports of the year. These sports include track and field, boys golf, tennis, and baseball. On March 7, the track season officially began with two invitationals. In both these invitationals RHS ran, threw, and jumped incredibly well.
Invitationals are meets where only certain athletes from each school are selected. These athletes play against the best athletes from other schools in their respective events. For Ripon there were two invitationals, one at Sierra High School and the other at Tracy High School. During the meet at Sierra, the girls placed first among all other teams, with Clara Schoolland leading the way placing first in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:01. The boys also had much success as they placed third against 13 other competing schools. There were several P.R’s (personal record) during the meet including senior, Daniel Lopez as he P.R’d in shot put with a impressive 13.11 meter throw.
However, things weren’t as impressive for the RHS track team during the Tracy invitational. During this meet the RHS boys placed fifth out of eight, and the girls placed sixth out of eight.
Scholland stated when asked about the Tracy meet,” [I’m] a bit [concerned], but I understand it is not our ‘A’ team, so we didn’t win and there is good reason for that. I’m hoping they’ll improve it. “
Despite not doing so well during the Tracy meet there was still much to look forward to with the Sierra. With the season just beginning the RHS track will only improve and improve.
