On Thursday, March 27, the Lady Indians competed against the Hughson Huskies. Both teams were undefeated with a 3-0 record and this game decided who was first place in the TVL league. Both teams fought till the very end and the Lady Indians came out on top.
To start the game, junior Addison Naranjo hit a double which then scored for a run getting the game off to a great start. As time went on, the Lady Indians played defense extremely well and this is what kept them in the game. For Hughson, their first two batters, junior Grace Leedom and junior Presley Wells did extremely well for their team both going 4 four 4 for the Huskies. Ripons pitcher, junior Angelina Martinez battled through the whole game and fought for her team. With consistent strikeouts, and solid defense,she truly performed for her team. By the second inning the score was 2-0.
In the fourth inning, the game began to get closer and closer. With a few minor errors from the Indians the Huskies were able to get the score to 2-2 bringing them back into the game. The fifth inning begins and the rally is started off by MIkayla Dietrich, freshman.Later that inning she brought the game up 3-2 with her being able to advance from sophomore Ava Hernandez’s bunt single.The following inning the Huskies managed to get a run to score, tying the game 3-3.
Alana Hernandez, a senior catcher for the Indians states, “Our teamm did very well on defense and keeping our energy up. Even though our bats were good, there is still room to improve.”
The game was extremely close to an end, but the Indians kept their spirits up and their energy even higher. The seventh inning began and the same score remained. With runners on base and the game on the line, senior Abby Stewart brought in the winning hit giving the Indians a joyous end to a long and exciting game. Stewart states, “It felt good being able to come through for my teammates and to help us succeed.”
After such a long battle the girls rallied together and were able to finish the game on top. The Lady Indians remain undefeated so stop by their next game and support them!
