San Francisco, home to over 800,000 residents, recently welcomed Ripon High’s Environmental Science Club into its community. On Saturday March 29th, the club went to San Francisco’s natural history museum, California Academy of Science, to learn further about the environment. The club got to see many different environments, with the Steinhart Aquarium, Rain forests of the World exhibited in a 90-foot glass dome, the Morrison Planetarium, a penguin habitat, and a green roof. Junior Emma Smith, a recent club addition, was stunned by the museum, “What stood out to me about the museum was how many different things there were, like the 3 story terrarium. So many different things you can see.”
Each student that went to the field trip got a t-shirt, and club advisor Mrs. Van Vuren supervised the field trip and the 18 students that attended. The trip was open to all grades, and was a great learning experience. Smith states her motivation to join the club and attend on the trip, “The environment is so good, and it’s important to take care of it and I wanted to learn more about it.”
This is the second big trip that the club has taken and the funds were supported by the Ripon High Booster Club. The club has been active for 4 years, but this year the club has been especially active holding soap making classes, a thrift swap fundraiser, and paper making classes. Thank you club leaders and club members for promoting environmental awareness at Ripon High!

Violet Wagner, Journalist
Violet Wagner is a junior at RHS. This will be her third year in the class, and her favorite part about the class is getting to be more involved in the on goings at Ripon High. Violet runs cross country and track, and hopes to PR this cross country season. Violet also hopes to pass her AP exams this year, start a club, and participate in mock trial. For her desert islands she would chose the movie Oceans 11, the album In Rainbows, and Anne of Green Gables for her book because she has never finished it before.
