As school begins, so does football season, with both Varsity and JV starting 1-0 after defeating Golden Valley on August 22, 2025. Varsity posted a 48-26 win, JV secured a 44-13 victory, and Frosh capped the evening with a 48-6 triumph, all under intense heat. The strong opening caught the attention of fans across the field.
With the unfortunate loss last year in Varsity’s playoff run against Liberty Ranch, this season starts off as a fresh start, opening a new door. The team kept their heads high this off-season, putting in the work in the workout room, analyzing crucial plays, and putting it all out there on the practice field. Senior Mike Evans had this to say about the team preparing towards the upcoming game: “We’ve been watching a lot of film and doing our scout team and scout defense, you know? Just going over the plays that Golden Valley might run and the formations they might be in…” With the team making efficient progress, they easily overcame obstacles ahead.
Heading into the game, the stakes were high as both teams aimed for a winning start to their season. Ripon High received the opening kickoff and quickly advanced with strong runs, leading to Kael Rangel scoring a rushing touchdown to establish momentum early. After the successful field goal, Golden Valley responded with a rushing touchdown with only six minutes left in the first quarter, but failed their two-point conversion. In the closing minute of the quarter, Ripon had possession again. Junior Quarterback Andrew Shaw completed a key pass to Gavin Decena, placing them at Golden Valley’s three-yard line. Shaw then ran it in for another touchdown before the quarter ended. When asked about his favorite hype up song, Shaw said, “I don’t really like to listen to hype music… I like to listen to Blessed by Daniel Caesar before the game, that’s my go-to.”
Ultimately, the Indians dominated their opener, scoring decisively and setting a strong tone for the season. This week, the Indians face the Enoch Eagles on Friday, August 29th. Best of luck to Ripon Indian Football for a spectacular season.
