With August coming to an end, the weather only continues to heat up. Many have chosen to spend the rest of their summer days inside their houses, but the RHS flag football team continues to work hard even in the harsh conditions. On Aug 25th 2025, the RHS girls flag football team played a thrilling game against River Islands. Although this game was full of setbacks, the girls battled till the end to secure a 20-0 win.
In their first home game of the season, the varsity did an outstanding job on the defensive side of the ball. The defense read the River Islands QB well to force several interceptions.The pass rush also was very effective at making the quarterback throw incomplete passes, picking up several sacks, and creating a non-existent run game for River Islands.This helped lead varsity to a shut out win.
Sophomore W.R/C.B Mia Hendryx stated on the defensive performance,” It feels really good because last year we didn’t have that good of a defense, but I feel like we all worked together and we’ve worked really hard on our defense. So, I feel like the hard work is paying off.”
The offense had a slow start, but the success of the defense got spirits high. The picks made by the defense boosted morale and gave the offense more chances to score. In the first half, passing plays weren’t very effective, and rushing plays were difficult to pull off against River Islands relentless defense, so the team had to adapt. In the second half, receivers were able to pick up many receptions to produce big yardage after catch plays. The RHS offense picked up quickly after their first touchdown, as the team’s energy skyrocketed leading to 2 more touchdown passes. This offense would end up putting a 20-0 final score against River Islands.
Hendryx stated on the offense’s slow start, “I feel like we could’ve improved on our offense, making the plays every single time, and making sure we’re making the passes correct every time.”
The team is constantly bettering themselves by improving their skills each and every week, as well as coming together as a team. With a record of 2-2, the team will try and improve all their skills throughout the season.This victory can hopefully help set the tone for the season to hopefully end with a winning record.
