There are many ways to prepare for a big game and some people say that the weirdest pre-game ritual makes for the best gameplay. Senior Olivia Neuman witnessed this in action as a fellow teammate eats “cheese and chocolate” before a game. While preparing for a game plays a big role, it’s really the game play and collaboration that makes for the best outcome, and the varsity team set the bar high at the first home game of the year.
This was a killer game for varsity, opening the season with a 3 game win and leaving East Union’s score under 10 in every game. The aces and kills helped the score tremendously, but let’s not forget about the backrow. Defense is the most important part in many sports and volleyball especially. The backrow with perfect passes led the team to get those sets and hits that won those three sets.
When multiple players were asked how the team is so competitive, the answer from each player was about their hard work. While the Lancers blocked some of our efforts, the team’s resilience and perseverance led the way like instinct and carried our team to victory.
Volleyball has many individual roles but in the end the game is about working as a team. Neuman says, “Being a part of a team is like being part of a family… it’s like a sisterhood”. Even though this was only the season opener, the Lady Indians have already built a family worth lasting.
