On Fri. August 29, Ripon High held its first school gathering of the year: The Back to School Rally. The theme for this year was Black light spirit, this meaning bright neon colors and loud thrilling music. With the lively atmosphere and the buzzing of excitement from the audience the back to school rally was definitely a success .
To kick off the event the students got to meet their new rally commissioner which is… Emme Wilbur! Along with being rally commissioner Wilbur is also ASB president and a varsity cheerleader. Justin Saltsman, a junior at Ripon High and last year’s rally commissioner, gave his insight to Wilbur’s new role,” She’s very outgoing and energetic. Both things are needed for a good rally commissioner. I think she’ll do well with raising the crowd’s energy and excitement.”
Wilbur led off the rally accompanied by Jill Mortenson, or better known as Morty, to the students of Ripon High. Morty walked out dressed in a graduation gown and gave a heartfelt message to the seniors reminding them of how quickly their time is going at Ripon High.
Shortly after Morty’s enlightening message the Ripon High cheerleaders took to the stage. Wi

th the music brought by the school’s band the cheerleaders gave a quick introduction to the chants they perform at football games. While it may have been a short performance the cheerleaders were fun to watch and brought light to the remainder of the rally.
To round off the first rally of the year the Ripon High students got a chance to see what future rallies will look like, get used to new faces in the gym, and to enlighten everyone’s spirits about the coming school year. Hopefully, all of Ripon High’s students will be in high spirits about this year’s upcoming rallies.
