As Homecoming week commenced with much excitement and many activities Powderpuff, the coronation of the Homecoming Court, the rallies, and the annual parade, so did the crowning of the Grand Marshal. The Grand Marshal is a member of the staff who is chosen because of their significant contributions on campus and helps students make them feel like they belong.
The staff member who best fits this description is Señor Saenz, the 2025-2026 school year Grand Marshal. Sr. Saenz teaches Spanish II, Spanish IV, and Spanish Heritage I. He is a beloved teacher at RHS who is known for wearing pink on Wednesdays and for encouraging his students to sing in front of the class.
Saenz moved from Mexico to Modesto at a young age, where he attended Modesto High School and became interested in athletics. His love of sports eventually led to him being able to go to college on a track and field scholarship.
When being introduced at the Homecoming Kick-Off rally by Senior Rally Commissioner Emme Wilbur, Saenz was described as someone who is “loved by everyone on this campus and really exemplifies what Ripon is about…and someone who has made a big and huge impact on campus in the best way possible.”
Saenz admits that he was shocked when he first heard that he was to be Grand Marshal and he questioned why it was him. However, after getting over his initial shock, he sees this position as an honor and a privilege and is humbled to think that the students thought he was the person for this job.
It is easy to see that Sr. Saenz is passionate about teaching and cares for his students, a major part of being Grand Marshal. He states, “The kids have really touched my heart [in ways that are] really hard for me to ever express and explain. For me, it is very meaningful and it’s why I do what I do.”
Señor Saenz has made a major impact on campus, and for that RHS students are forever grateful.
