On Sunday, May 14, the Texas Rangers (20-20) faced the Oakland Athletics (17-22) in Arlington. The Rangers came back later in the game to clinch a three game sweep of the Athletics with a 6-4 victory. Texas has one six straight.
“The comeback wins are something I felt would come with this ballclub as we started to get our offense in shape, as the bullpen settled down and pitched better.” said Rangers manager, Jeff Banister. “We knew this offense would get going at some point.”
The Athletics scored all of their runs through home runs off of the Rangers starting pitcher, A.J Griffin. Third baseman, Trevor Plouffe, and second baseman, Adam Rosales hit solo home runs and outfielder, Matt Joyce blasted a two-run homer.
The Athletics starting pitcher, Kendall Graveman carried a 4-2 game to the seventh inning, but outfielder, Carlos Gomez led off the inning with a single and scored on another single. “These guys are good hitters. They’re going to be good hitters,” Banister said. “When we have the ability to run the bases, take the extra base on hits, steal bases, put pressure on the defense, this offense shows up.”
The Texas Rangers swept the Oakland Athletics with a final score of 6-4. The Rangers will play the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, May 16. For the Athletics, they will go on to play the Seattle Mariners on Monday, May 15.
